Choceur Milk Chocolate and White Fudge Covered Pretzels

by Rachael @ ALDI REVIEWER

In recent years Aldi has added Choceur Milk Chocolate Covered Pretzels and Choceur White Fudge Covered Pretzels to its snack food aisle. These aren’t healthy foods by any means, with high sugar, fat and carb counts, but they do make a nice snack while watching a movie at home on…

No, But Seriously, Dove Soap Is Bad

No, But Seriously, Dove Soap Is Bad

The Concourse

So yesterday, BuzzFeed's editors, in a super duper blatant breach of the tenets of their Editorial Standards And Ethics Guide, deleted a post in which staff writer Arabelle Sicardi criticized toiletries brand Dove for its sleazy, exploitative advertising. Dove, you see, is owned by Unilever—the multinational consumer goods behemoth last seen being an oversensitive penis over the definition of mayonnaise—which happens to be one of BuzzFeed's major advertising partners.

My thoughts | I want to buy a brush set!

by noreply@blogger.com (Teri Yellow) @ Sa Mata ng Isang Probinsiyana

I want to play and experiment, and I want to help unveil the hidden beauty of other people.

I've been thinking of make up brushes the whole day of yesterday and the first thing I did when I woke up this day was to continue browsing reviews and opinions over the net. Watching Rhazel's channel in youtube inflamed my old desire to buy my own brush. And I'm still not using my bdj box from Pink Sugar, like it silently waits for the arrival of my future brushes. I don't know why, but it suddenly felt like it's so crucial to have it (when I don't really think of it back on previous months and years). But now, I want to have my own set of brush na!

I will be on a hormonal therapy for this month and hopefully for the following months. That will eventually lead to a face free of pimples. I really wanted to shift from skincare to cosmetics so I could at least do my own makeup on special occasion. It ruins my mood when I don't like the result of other people's work in my face (especially eyebrows) and even in my hair. What I currently have is too far from being complete though. I still need a huge palette for eye shadow and contour. How I wish the price of the entire makeup set is not intimidating.

I told my boyfriend I want to have a set of make up brush. I find it ironically funny when he volunteered and asked me the brand, price or where he can possibly buy it because the combined price is embarrassingly expensive compared to guys' gadgets (because we female have gadgets too!). I won't let him buy my personal female luxury things because it's awkward and it's a luxury we can live without. But if he wants to buy a DSLR for me, okay lang lols...

The prices of other beauty products is really intimidating. If I make my living by doing other people's makeup, the price will be reasonable. Maybe knowing my goals in makeup and sticking with it will help. On the early days of my blogging, I can't even fathom why women buy a lot of expensive face products. They only use it in their face lang naman and it expires. May naiipon pa kaya sila? My main concern is the same, “I'm a low wager” and there's the guilt feeling on splurging on those things.

Isn't less better? Does this makes sense when I really don't want to wear a heavy makeup in a daily basis? Who will be my prospects when practicing? Will it be okay for me to share my personal brush and other makeup products on other people's face?

What's up? Blog update

by noreply@blogger.com (Teri Yellow) @ Sa Mata ng Isang Probinsiyana

I still peek in my blog even if I'm currently not posting but I stopped reading other people's blogs. So it means I'm also currently not updated in blogosphere. I still observe and reply to some comments. I'm just lurking behind. Blogging is one of the things that I still see myself doing continuously in the future. I've been writing personal journal since my teenage years so I know that this therapeutic habit is something I will not give up easily. I feel more happy and comfortable in writing personal stuff but I'm afraid to pass negativity. You know, blue days. The more I ignore and don't acknowledge it, the longer it stays. I chose silence than make you feel sad knowing that sadness can be contagious.

I remember I felt depressed when I saw a break up post of a blogger I follow before. I was sad previously and became sadder after reading that. But even if she was not yet telling her problem, I noticed how she became less lively and felt the changed of her aura compared years ago. She became fat too and she procrastinates in giving the prices of her monthly best commenter. I don't want you to feel what I felt before that's why I've been torn between writing or waiting and keeping it to myself.

But I want you to understand that I'm not writing to entertain you guys. Like what I've said, I'm writing for myself and writing for some people who needs information of a certain product, not necessarily a beauty product. I'm afraid that I might not meet your expectations but I'm still thankful to those who still comes back.

Anyways, I want to share what's currently happening to my blog: SOMEONE IS ATTACKING MY BLOG!

If you're wondering, I'm an Infotech graduate. I'm aware of some technical stuff and what's happening behind the scenes. However, my current work is not related to I.T. so I'll admit I'm not that good anymore.

I've made a not so good review about a certain product in an honest and kind tone. Surprisingly, my review of that product was almost in the top search result of Google. Since then, I've noticed that my blog receives illegal referrals, talk about obscene websites linking to my blog. I noticed how the rank slowly dropped but it's still in the first page. The bad referral happens almost everyday. Next, I've noticed that I'm receiving a lot of spam comments from new and suspicious account but I don't approve it because I'm not that stupid. I wonder what the attacker's next plan is. Unfortunately, the attacker could be a Filipino too because there's actually a profession and community that does that and it's related to I.T.

Have you experienced that kind of problem too? How did you deal with that? I want to hear your experience and how you cope up with that. You can share it below or you can email me.

Puppy Diaries: Beginner with Puppies and Some Problems Encountered

by noreply@blogger.com (Teri Yellow) @ Sa Mata ng Isang Probinsiyana

Taking care of my new puppy is tiring and consumes my time. How much more If I'll have my own child? How will I balance work and kids while still being a good partner and friend to my better half? I just realize that it’s not easy since the puppy was not in good health when I've got him. Imagine the hardship of our mothers. My mom is very good domestically but that comes with a con - she's not really sweet and affectionate to us. Maybe that’s the result of huge responsibility at an early age. Talk about early pregnancy, having a lot of kids, and a difficult partner! So think first before you commit!

My puppy's name is Pepper. Weird thing is I've received an approval from my Mom to keep him. But Pepper is still my lone responsibility. That will be a challenge for me before I’ll consider starting my own family. It will not be easy since I'm not really a dog lover and my family doesn’t give them a special treatment. I doubt too that I could rely on them to take care of him when I'm not around, perhaps on a very rare occasion only.

Unknowledgeable with dogs
What I’ve done in the past few weeks was I’ve read a lot of forum conversations and articles regarding puppies. And there’s my dog-lover boyfriend who’s generous in giving me advices on the proper treatment and caring of dogs. If I delayed giving Pepper an anti-lice bath, the damage in his skin could be worst than what it is now. Talk about zero knowledge about dogs. I was not sure if it’s okay to give the puppy an anti-lice treatment at 6 weeks of age, I don’t know if it could handle a bath, and have no idea of what anti-lice shampoo to buy. The lice devour the puppy’s skin and gives it a wet wound. That’s what happened to Pepper. The blood sucking pests could also make the puppy anemic.

Other dilemmas:

1. The Amount of Food to Give. Someone told me that puppies can die from overfeeding, not sure if it's true though. He’s very fury, it's kinda deceiving that its hard to guess if the food is too much for him. I’ve only bought a kilo of dog food (I don't even know the name) and its instruction is in the sack. There’s a computation of how much to feed based on the dog’s weight but I haven’t researched about it yet.

2. Deworming The Puppy. In our Aspin dogs, they only do it once in their entire life and that’s during their puppy days. I’m currently working on this. I bought syrup which might turn out as a bad buy compared to a tablet form since I’ve read somewhere that once it’s open, the strength lessens after 30 days. Uh-oh. My mom dislikes the idea of me buying a 350 (7$) worth deworming product. She volunteered to buy a cheaper one (not sure if the one that is intended for human babies) if I will return what I’ve bought. If only it’s not embarrassing and not a hassle to return it … It was not given to him immediately since Pepper was not feeling well after he ate other dog’s vomit and vomited it too.

3. No Cage/Crate. I’m still using my sister’s cage until that last last weekend but she disposed it on that weekend too. I offered to buy it but she refused, so I ended up with “poop everywhere” problem. It’s easier to potty train him when he’s in the cage as no dogs would want to poop in their sleeping area. Since there’s no more cage, he no longer poops outside. The potty training during lunch time doesn’t sound feasible though as a puppy could not hold his poop for straight 8 hours since I'm in work. I need someone to take him out during lunch time.

A cage is needed top since the dog is not allowed inside the house. I’m just living in other people’s house so I have to obey their rules.

But caging the dog seems like it gives them depression. Pepper only wags its tail when I let him out, not during the time that he noticed I came home.

4. Poop Everywhere. The lack of cage means he needed to be trained to poop in a carton filled with soil. Poop is a joy killer. The scent and picking of poop is the part that I hated most with pets. If the pup has worms, the poop will carry the worms and the eggs. Then there’s the flies… :| I’ve read somewhere that the worm can survive in the soil for 1-2 years? Talk about petting your puppy, holding it, licking you, and the possibility of transfer of worms to us.

When Pepper eats pure dog food soaked in water, his poops were firmer and not smelly BUT he always poop that I wonder if it is really absorbed in his body. He eat less if it’s dog food though.

5. Frequent Floor Mopping. Because of problem # 4.

6. The Attracted Flies. Because of problem # 4.

7. He Doesn’t Bark. This is still in relation to problem #4. If he will bark, at least I’ll know when to let him out in the garden. He only barked twice in the past, though yesterday I've heard him bark three times.

8. Puppy Expenses. I didn't know that puppy is a high maintenance pet. I need to find a fund for my puppy expenses else my little savings will gradually deplete because of him. Talk about vet expenses and dog needs. It's easier if it's an Aspin. Lesson learned? Taking care of a not so healthy puppy is no joke so if you have a chance, please pick a healthy one!

Facebook Now, Friendster Before

by noreply@blogger.com (Teri Yellow) @ Sa Mata ng Isang Probinsiyana

Facebook used to be so enjoyable when it was just “us” in the campus and the instructors. That was when we didn’t yet add a lot of people we didn’t really know or accepted the friend request of older generations, relatives and nosy neighbors. Back then, we just play Farmville and exchange gifts even with our instructors. We take pride in our achievements in different FB games. Simple joys.

I miss Friendster. I miss the part where you can see who viewed your profile. You also have to make an effort to go to other people’s page to know them more because you admire them or just curious of them. When you post, no one would know it unless they visit your page. There’s no Newsfeed where every post of yours will be seen by all of those who are in your friend list. You just browse pictures. You customize your page to express your personality.

Posting in Facebook is quite embarrassing now. It’s equivalent to showing off. It’s too public. Besides, it’s not a place like a blog to log your life. Facebook is not your diary. It’s not an Instagram for you to bombard it with pictures. It is currently a place where you can easily call the attention of people from different walks of life. Some people rant and get annoyed. You receive unsolicited information through your friend’s post even if you don’t really need or like what they’ve said.

I hope this is where Google+ enters. I hope they could revive Friendster by adapting some of its old features in their site. Then they’ll have moderators to avoid obscenity. It will be a place to dig helpful information for personal or academic growth (just like with forums). The main feature will be blogs where members can be compensated through advertisement at the same time. More of like a combination of blogging and modern Friendster.

The only consolation I have from Facebook is that it’s a place where most people online can be found. You can find helpful groups that cater your interest. Say like you can join a group of a certain brand or unit of a phone that’s similar to what you own and learn relevant trends, tips and troubleshooting. If you have a certain illness, you can join a group and hear the other members’ experience and learn possible cure.

Micmic's Corner

Let me start by saying that I hated this soap when I was younger. All I care about my skin before is for it to stay as dry as possible. That’s what you become when you lack knowledge on what’s good and what’s bad for your skin. So yeah, I avoided this brand of soap …

Behind the Joys of Blog Hopping

by noreply@blogger.com (Teri Yellow) @ Sa Mata ng Isang Probinsiyana

When I’m not writing articles, I blog hop. I go to different blogs and leave a comment on interesting posts. Sometimes it’s a way of initiating relationship between bloggers that can be very beneficial especially when they’ll become a follower of each other’s weblog. Blog hopping also enables me to understand the industry better. It exposes me to more ideas and helps me realize the path I’m pursuing. Back reading their posts even makes me more conscious of how korni my other posts can be.

Blog hop or blog hopping works by visiting a blog that has the same niche with yours. If your blog is about fashion or beauty, you search for similar sites and leave a relevant comment together with your own link.

I’ve done this in my early blogging days to discover and follow inspirational or entertaining blogs and to also introduce my blog to my fellow Filipino bloggers. I’m happy to say that some of them have followed me back. However, I’ve stopped leaving my link because it might get spammy and it can hurt the overall health of my blog instead of benefiting from it. I believe that there’s an unspoken rule regarding the proper way of leaving comments in other websites. I honestly don’t know the exact rule, only a wild guess that it is not advisable to just leave your plain URL or URL hyperlink below the comment. It’s very tempting but who knows if it could backfire someday. There is a right and obvious place for our links and there's even a dedicated textbox for that.

Disadvantage of Blog Hopping

  1. There’s no real interaction. Some just leave comments deprived of real value. If you are a blogger, you’ll learn to discern which comment is genuine, rushed or fake. For the love I have in my e-journal, I'd rather choose to stop exchanging comment or reduce the frequency of my comments to other blogs than to receive a message from them that feels like a spam.
  2. A messy page. Some of  us are blinded with having a lot of comments in our entries and we even allow those generated or unrelated comments to appear. But doing so will make your future reader, your real target audience, suffer. Why would a visitor linger long if the comments are like trash? Will it help them in their decision making? Does it adds value to the information they're seeking in the net? Or at least entertain them? Visually, it doesn’t add up in the aesthetics of your site. There is no balance between the real worth of your article versus the loads of comments you received.
  3. Tricky and time consuming. It’s very artificial and it’s “too much” to leave your link in every page you’ve commented. Even too much of a good thing is a bad thing. Practice moderation. Choose only the blogs and a particular post where it is best to share your comment and link.

This is just one of the many ways to gain free traffic. So use your time wisely! Focusing only in the scheme of blog hopping might reduce your time on other important things you should be prioritizing more.

Do you practice blog hopping? Do share your experience and observations.
